Technology Before the Furniture
Raíces is a new restaurant and cocktail bar in Charlotte with a long bar, booth seating and a dining room facing the street. A space like that runs on more technology than guests ever see: POS terminals at the bar and the host stand, kitchen printers or screens, card readers, cameras, music and the WiFi that staff and guests both expect.
The owners brought Royal Nerds in while the space was still under construction. That timing let us plan one network for everything, run the cabling while walls and ceilings were open, and hand the POS installers a building that was ready for them. It is the same approach we used at The Garrison at Tega Cay and Club West.
Opening day is not the time to find a dead drop
A POS terminal with no network on opening night is a line of guests waiting. Every station was cabled, tested and documented before the first ticket.
Cameras and POS share the same backbone
Planning the network once, for everything, avoids the usual restaurant mess of separate installers running separate cables to separate switches.
Separation is easier to build than to add
Isolating POS, guest WiFi and cameras is straightforward on a new network. Splitting a flat network after opening means downtime during service.

Cameras covering the entrance, the bar, the dining room and the back of house, recording on site with remote viewing for ownership and management.

Network drops, connectivity and placement prepared at every POS station and the bar, so the Toast POS terminals could be set up and go live without waiting on infrastructure.
WiFi and network separation
Staff and POS traffic kept separate from guest WiFi and from the camera system, which is the foundation of PCI-friendly restaurant networking.
How the Project Ran

Plan one network for everything
Working from the floor plan, the team mapped every POS station, the bar, the kitchen, camera positions and access points, and designed a single network with separate segments for POS, cameras, staff and guests.

Run the cabling while the walls are open
Drops were pulled to each POS location, camera and access point during construction, routed cleanly and terminated at the network equipment location, with no retrofitting once finishes went in.

Install the network equipment
The router, switches and access points were installed and configured with the planned segmentation, and every drop was tested and labeled.

Install the security cameras
Cameras were mounted to cover the entrance, the bar, the dining room and the back of house, and the recorder was configured for on-site recording and remote viewing.

Prepare every POS station
Each POS location was verified live on the network so the Toast POS terminals could be placed and set up without waiting on infrastructure.

The restaurant received a labeled, documented network it can grow on, with cameras recording and the POS foundation ready before opening.
